Stuff That Goes Right Over My Head

The appeal of these things/people is lost on me...

  • Steampunk
  • Harry Potter
  • Twilight
  • Grown women dressing as Disney princesses for their wedding - grow up already, would you?
  • Hipsters
  • Tights
  • Reviving the 80's
  • Country music
  • Lady Gaga
  • Scarlet Johannsen
  • Dr. Who
  • TyPinG Lyk THiS
  • Megan Fox
  • Holiday weddings - because we don't have enough to deal with during holiday seasons without having to drop everything to watch you get married.
  • Sequins and glitter
  • Justin Bieber
  • Awesome Blossoms
  • Getting shit-faced drunk and partying
  • Bars and clubs
  • Diet soda
  • Asian dramas and American soap operas

P.S. We're in the US now for the holidays.

I'm doing fine actually!

I've been going to therapy for a few weeks now and I can say that I already feel better.

I am on medication (thank your lucky stars, world. Much longer without medication and I probably would have gone on a mass-killing spree >_<), which includes an antidepressant, an anti-anxiety, and a mood stabilizer.  Also: the therapist has given me journals for keeping track of my mood as well as a gratitude journal. Both journals have helped so much.

I have started up my meditation practice again. Each evening, after the kids are asleep, I sit for 15 minutes focusing on my breath. You forget how awesome it feels to just sit and breath after you've been out of touch with your meditation practice for a while.
Over all, my mind is clearer and my moods are more stable. My mood swings aren't nearly as bad as they had been previously and the world doesn't appear as gloomy.

In other news...
- I have decided to learn French! My studies started last week. I'm doing this on my own, so wish me luck.
- The therapist has suggested that I eliminate caffeine from my diet. So, I tried it for a few days. Caffeine withdraw is horrible.I know it passes, but for the love of God, the effects of caffeine in my system far outweigh the effects of caffeine withdraw. So, as you may have already concluded, I'm back on caffeine. My life wouldn't be the same without tea and the occasional peppermint latte. -_-
- Vinnie is crawling!!! Yes. My baby boy is up and moving. I can't believe it.

Etsy sucks big, glittery balls

Bettie 2
Etsy = a bunch of mindless, clueless hipsters that I'd like to kick in the mouth.
Regretsy has turned me on the glitter-fuckery that is Etsy. Of course I knew of Etsy before but I didn't know just how brain-washed and moronic the sellers are, not to mention the numb-nuts staff. The site is a world of rainbow unicorn cotton candy douchery, where everyone kisses everyone's ass, even when the shit they are peddling is atrocious.
I only started loathing Etsy after I caught a glimpse of all the 9/11 crap people were selling. My God. The amount of exploitation of the tragedy by Etsy users was mind-blowing. Then, today, a mere 24 hours after Steve Jobs' death, sellers are already peddling wares "in memory of Steve Jobs". What really boiled my blood was this: http://www.etsy.com/treasury/MTUxMDgxNTd8ODMxNDA1NDc0/rip-steve-jobs. NONE of this fuckocity has anything to do with Steve Jobs and the creator of the treasury threw in her own "Apple" cake platter, which she posted last month and all of a sudden, today, she decided to label it as a tribute to Steve Jobs.
I'm a bitch. We know this. But, no matter what, I do not exploit pain and loss. A person can label it a "tribute" until they're blue in the face. Putting lipstick on a pig doesn't make it a lady. It is dirty and if Etsy had any self-respect (which it obviously does not), they would clamp down on this tasteless bullshit. But no, they're more worried about the people in the forums who are calling out resellers.
Etsy, please go fuck yourself.

Writer's Block: Once upon a time…

"News item from the Westover (Me.) weekly Enterprise, August 19, 1966: RAIN OF STONES REPORTED"

Can you guess which book starts with this line? Hint: Stephen King wrote it. 2nd hint: I've read this book 14 times (thought I'm not sure how that is supposed to help you guess which book it is xD. Thought I'd sneak some bragging in :D

What is the scariest horror flick you’ve seen?

The scariest movie I have ever watched, eh?
I've watched billions of them and being scared by one is ultra rare, even more so now that I am older. The one horror gem that has managed to scare me in adult hood is Ghostwatch, a BBC made-for-tv mocumentary that aired in 1992, waaaay ahead of it's time. The film follows for a single nighta family living in a haunted house in London. Things start off innocently enough, but as the evening wears on, the paranormal activity taking place in the house escilates.
I know, I know....this scenario has been played out at lease a dozen times in the past decade, but keep in mind that this was 1992. Reality TV was a decade away from being a household term. For me, this makes the film even creepier because it takes on a sort of prophetic quality.
According to various sources, the film caused a mass hysteria in Britain during it's only showing on Halloween night 1992. Several cases of post traumatic stress induced by the film and even the suicide of a mentally-challanged young man after watching the film were reported. Why was it such a big deal? Because people didn't know that what was going on wasn't real. Most of Britian was under the impression that they were viewing a live feed of actual paranormal activity. Actual BBC news anchors and tv personalities were used in the film, making the film seem all the more real. It was War of the Worlds all over again.

Happy Birthday, Beth

Happy 86th Birthday, Elizabeth
Dear Elizabeth,
Happy birthday! If only you were here to celebrate..
Do you know the massive amount of people who have cared for and still care for you? There is no way you could possibly have known that horrible treatment that you would endure in January 1947 would become a legend that haunts Hollywood, and most of America, 63 years later.
I know what you wanted most was love and fame and you have it now, though not in the way you deserve, but you are loved. We love you for the person you were: a simple, ambitious young girl who aimed for the Moon, not a mangled body discovered in a vacant lot or a prostitute
We will continue to fight for the justice that is rightfully yours. Always.
Rest in peace, sweetheart.

Charity auctions

Dude!
In the next week or so, I will be auctioning off a large chunk of my BPAL collection to benefit the North Shore Animal League America organization. NSALA takes in over 20,000 animals into their shelter each year. They are a "no-kill" shelter, which means they do not destroy animals simply because they are special needs and/or cannot find homes.

If you're interested, check out the auctions we have up so far:
Clicky to see 'em all!

I don't want to toot my own horn but I feel pretty damn awesome about this. I love to donate to animal charities and this is the perfect way!

Jun Jin Smile
Jun Jin's slightly less attractive Japanese older brother? YES! How do they have the same unibrow?!

Shinji Takeda:

Junner Bean:

Ok, not the best photos to compare with, but it's the best I could do at the moment.
Amélie says the resemblance is uncanny. It totally blew her mind! She may have an uncle after all. ;)

UPDATE: I've had some time to think about it and I'm pretty sure I'd be more inclined to jump into bed with the Japanese guy. Jun Jin's personality sucks and personality plays a big part in whether a man is sexy or not, in my opinion.

Laura in Plastic
WOOOOOO!
A friend of mine on the BPAL forums and I did a swap. I sent her 5 bottles of my beloved oils and in exchange, she painted this for me:
Dead. Wrapped in plastic.
It's a box for my perfume!! Isn't it fantastic? I literally teared up when I opened the shipping box and saw it. The details are more beautiful if you can see them in person. Totally perfect.

Here is the photo she had to work with:

This is something I'll hold on to for the rest of my life. I just love it.
Thank you so much, J. Lots of love and gratitude coming your way.
